I’m not and never was that much into Death Metal live recordings, but I have to admit that there are some pretty fine live albums around. One of those is definitely "Brazilian Deathkult Live Violence…", previously released on cassette format in 2002 via French Eternal Fire. This recording captures a wild and energetic show from 1995, at Grapiúna Tênis Clube, Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil and features only songs of the debut album “Born…Suffer…Die” (’91) and the successor “Punishment At Dawn” (’93) plus a VENOM cover. This CD edition comes with two bonus tracks: a drum solo (which isn’t that impressive) and the song “Am I Crazy” in a cut off version. Of course this not a high-tech production but I really like the sound quality of this recording cause it sounds pretty powerful, raw and authentic. It definitely sounds way better than most of the underground Death Metal live crap that’s around. HEADHUNTER D.C. is one of the oldest, still active Death Metal bands on this doomed planet. And surely it is also one of the best and most dedicated bands around. Although I prefer the brilliant blasphemous compositions of their last three albums I also love the early releases with its raw, chaotic and nasty atmosphere a lot. The songs of the first two albums have a huge blackened Thrash Metal edge and so the music on “Brazilian Deathkult Live Violence…” does not really represent the pure Death Metal monster to which the band evolved through the years. Nonetheless is this a historical monument of vicious and wild raging early 90s South American Death Metal and a must have for all supporters of the Brazilian Death Cult.
