The two Dutch Death Metal killing machines MASSIVE ASSAULT and ENTRAPMENT are meeting up on this split 7" EP, to mess you and me up, with two tracks each, two tracks of mean Death Metal, done the classic Dutch way, with a great touch of Swedish Death Metal done the olden way. MASSIVE ASSAULT delivers their two tracks with precision and fierceness, or well one track, as the first track ‘Prelude To Agony’ is an intro that starts the madness out with a great eerie and horror movie soundtrack-sounding guitar lead, that does very good. Then it transforms into ‘Staring Back’, that adds some nice and catchy riffing, that gets mixed a bit up with controlled chaos and some good breaks and groove. A Fierce and brutal track with some good elements tweeked into a good song, and I like how the guitar lead from the intro pops up again during ‘Staring Back’, a nice way to tie it together. ENTRAPMENT starts out with a heavy and a tad thrashy basher in form of ‘Wrath Of Dawn’, which indeed is a scream of agony, that draws the band closer to some early US Death / Thrash crossover, though a tad more laid back and not as furious and fast as usual. Though the dark and almost doomy sound, does actually do really good. The second track ‘Predatory Conduct’ kicks off with a good guitar lead, and a fierce up-tempo beat, a track that keeps the aggression all the way through, an intense inferno of wrath. Two quite good tracks, where the first builds up a perfect delivery for the second, well done, and two tracks that pull a bit away from Sweden and a tad closer to the good old days in Holland. A nice little EP showing two of Holland’s fine, newer bands, doing their thing. The heavy and relentless horror-infused pounding and a more refined, though also a bit more straight forward old school aggressor. On top of that the EP comes in a ‘fold open’ cover, I don’t know what it is called, it might have a technical more correct term, that is well done and looks quite good, and some nice fitting artwork.
