“De Syv Stadier Af Fordærv” is the latest EP from the top quality Danish Death Metal band UNDERGANG. A total of seven tracks for almost 21 minutes of aural putrefaction. This is a split label release between Dark Descent Records (CD) and Me Saco Un Ojo Records (vinyl). Each instrument is perfectly audible and the production is at the same time raw and professional. Regarding the music, you know, UNDERGANG is one of the best bands of the new wave of old school Death Metal. They play a form of morbid and sick Death Metal in the vein of legendary names such as AUTOPSY, FUNEBRE, DEMILICH, GRAVE, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, UNLEASHED and early ENTOMBED. They’re not particularly fast, but not even a Doom band; there are some accelerations here and there and that’s for sure a good thing for my ears. One of the best things of UNDERGANG is their rotten and putrid vocals: gore-drenched ultra guttural growlings alternated with vomit-like screamings; something very reminiscent of early CARCASS, DEMILICH and IMPETIGO. This new EP has a strong CARCASS influence too, especially from their second album “Symphonies Of Sickness”. The guitars have a BOLT THROWEResque touch occasionally, in particular when the galloping double bass à la ‘Cenotaph’ takes the scene. The guitar tone is dirty and sick. The drums aren’t technical, but do pretty well what is needed. The cover artwork is morbid and intense with a putrid representation of various stages of decomposition.
