NIFELHEIM / VULCANO
Thunder Metal

What we have here is an absolutely killer little split 7inch EP for the vinyl freaks out there. If you worship the old school sound then chances are you have heard of these bands. NIFELHEIM hails from Sweden and play Black Metal, but they sure as hell have nothing in common with their country mates like MARDUK or DARK FUNERAL. To me these guys would fit nicely in the first wave of Black Metal with bands like Venom and Bathory. These guys really have the atmosphere thing down. They sound very evil and got that great charm that is missing from so many bands these days. They have… personality. I really got into both of their songs on this split. Now while I was aware of NIFELHEIM from their split "A Tribute To Slayer Mag" on my personal favorite label, Nuclear War Now Productions, I am ashamed to say that this was my first experience with VULCANO. Now I liked the NIFELHEIM side but the VULCANO tracks just completely kicked my ass. These two little gems are some of the best music I have heard in a while. They are long time veterans from Brazil and like their country mates SARCOFAGO they play blistering Death Thrash with great songwriting and a perfect old school vibe. The production for both bands is just perfect. And when I say perfect it pertains to how it fits the music not the actual quality of the mixing and mastering etc… If you want polished Metal look elsewhere. Chances are this will pass many people by as vinyl is not as common as it once was, which is a shame because more young Metalheads should be exposed to music like this. By the way this thing sold out from the label like as soon as they released it. So if you see one you better pick it up or the next time you see it will be on ebay for way too much money. And for my fellow vinyl nerds this was limited to 1000 copies with the first 100 being the coveted "Die Hard" edition. If you managed to get one of these I hate you. Unfortunately I don’t know where to tell you to get this little gem but you can find more info about it here: www.ihate.se. I repeat if you see this, you better pick it up because it won’t be around for long. Recommended.
